Between the Silence: A Collection of Contemporary Poetry for Human Rights 2021

Author: Multiple Authors, Curated by Siphokazi Jonas and Malika Ndlovu

Published by: Manyano Media

Synopsis:

This collection of 44 poems by established and emerging writers reflects on the state of human rights in contemporary South Africa—human rights enshrined in the country’s Constitution. The poems are critical, celebratory, educational, and satirical in their commentary. The poets provoke and prompt, investigating freedom of expression and the power of protest.

This multilingual collection, co-curated by prolific poets Malika Ndlovu and Siphokazi Jonas, explores how we can begin to repair our socially fractured society. It inspires us as citizens to fight against brutality, gender-based violence, modern slavery, poverty, and the many other social ills that touch every aspect of our lives.
